Tamanu Oil for Eczema Releif
Our skin is probably the most hardworking organ of the entire human body. It protects us from the exterior world and all its elements or contaminants such as wind, rain, toxins, micro-organisms, etc. by basically covering us with a protective layer.
It’s almost like your own personal suit of armor, just much more permeable. But much like a knight’s battledress however, our skin can also develop a “chink in the armor”.
This can occur in the form of skin ailments or dermatitis.
If you have ever suffered from any of these skin conditions yourself, you know how aggravating they can be -not to mention disruptive to your life.
Oftentimes this would require a special trip to the dermatologist typically resulting in a prescription for a chemical-based cream that can be harsh on skin, not to mention other organ systems.
Thankfully, there are natural alternatives that will accelerate healing to keep skin looking great and well cared for.
Find some of our favorite natural remedies detailed below:
Eczema
Affecting nearly 10% of the American population, atopic dermatitis a.k.a. eczema can be hereditary but is most often caused by environmental factors such as moist/humid climates, certain fabrics, exposure to pollutants or allergens as well as ingesting certain foods, most commonly; dairy or certain kind of nuts.
It is characterized by red, inflamed, itchy, rough or cracked skin and can be a considerable nuisance.
Psoriasis
This conditioned is characterized by the accelerated life cycle of skin cells resulting in a build-up of painful and itchy silvery-white, scaly skin and/or red patches.
Although there hasn’t been any definitive “cure” found for this condition just yet one can manage symptoms through safe and natural means.
Tamanu oil
Because of its unique ability to penetrate skin and promote new skin growth, this robust multi-purpose oil is quite possibly THE BEST natural solution for eczema relief and other skin conditions. It is also ultra-moisturizing due to its high Vitamin E Content.
Tamanu oil has been one of the best kept secrets of Pacific islanders and French Polynesian medicine men with applications ranging from healing cuts, scrapes, burns, insect bites and stings, acne and acne scars, psoriasis, diabetic sores, sunburn, dry or scaly skin, blisters, diaper rash, rosacea, hyper-pigmentation –not to mention eczema.
As if all this wasn’t enough, Tamanu oil has also been shown to provide pain relief when applied to joints and skin for conditions such as neuralgia, rheumatism, and sciatica.
It is easy to apply topically; either directly to the site of irritation by itself or can be combined with other healing oils and butters such as coconut oil, Shea butter and/or cocoa butter.
These can help offset Tamanu’s characteristic deep, earthy fragrance as well as provide additional relief from itchiness and inflammation where desired.
There are two well documented scientific studies of note that have shown Tamanu oil to be effective in the treatment of Eczema:
A study titled "Anti-inflammatory effects of Calophyllum inophyllum," done by Tsai SC, Liang YH et al, was published in Oncology Reports on September 28, 2012.
In this study Tamanu oil was found it to be a very effective anti-inflammatory oil, helping in skin conditions such as acne, rashes, and other irritations such as insect bites, sores, and eczema.
Another study was done in 2015 entitled, "The Wound Healing and Antibacterial Activity of Five Ethnomedical Calophyllum inophyllum Oils: An Alternative Therapeutic Strategy to Treat Infected Wounds," was published by Teddy Léguillier, et al.
This study evaluated the wound healing and antibacterial properties of Tamanu Oil extracted from trees growing in five different locations. They concluded that when used topically Tamanu oil was effective in treating infected wounds and skin diseases such as acne.
If you haven’t yet tried it for your particular skin stress, you will likely be amazed at the results!
